The Cross Hatch Dispatch – 6.30.11

Categories:  The Cross Hatch Dispatch

[Above, French-speaking men adore Ludovic Debeurme's Lucille. Below, the Dispatch makes use of the English language.]

  1. Cat getting out of a bag: Jeffrey Brown is working on a screenplay! And other observations: Lizzy Caplan will star! And so will Martin Starr!
  2. I think Lizzy Caplan likes comics, what do you think? Remember when she was mentioned in Drinking at the Movies, but not by name, but then she WAS named on Museum of Mistakes when that comic was revisited? I do. That was, like, real right? Don’t toy with me.
  3. Do you know a celebrity that likes comics?  You should tell them to contact Brian and I about participating in the next Read Comics in Public Day set for August 28th!
  4. Do you like comics?  Please plan or attend a RCiPD meet-up!  It’s never too soon to start organizing your meet-ups.  We will help promote them on the RCiPD site and Facebook page.
  5. The Comic Archive channel keeps growing! You can find awesome videos here, like Chip Kidd talking about comics from his youth, and also gross things, like two dogs licking each other’s mouths. So, something for everyone?
  6. TONIGHT you can attend a signing party for the exquisite blogger and artist Julia Rothman’s Drawn In at The powerHouse Arena in Brooklyn from 7-9pm. For more information, please call 718.666.3049 or email rsvp@powerHouseArena.com to RSVP.  Looks awesome AND Vanessa Davis did the intro.  Pretty much nothing will stop me from buying this book.
  7. When I was in Rome last winter, Lucille is one of the comics I came across that I was willing to buy even though I couldn’t speak the language it was printed in.  It just looked that good.  Happily, Top Shelf has translated and published it for us English-speakers to enjoy.  (Thanks!)
