[Above, R. Crumb goes Old Testament on your ass. Below, Dispatch 3:16.]

  • Jeff Lemire’s inaugural issue of the new ongoing Vertigo title, Sweet Tooth, debuts today for only one American dollar at all fine comic book retailers.  I’d buy that for a dollar!
  • Marvel’s (or is that Disney’s?) Strange Tales #1 also launches today featuring an Inhumans tale and an amazing cover from the great pulp hope, Paul Pope.   Other creators include Peter Bagge, Nick Bertozzi, Molly Crabapple, Michael Kupperman, and Johnny Ryan.
  • Graceland Film Company quietly released the first animated clips of Jason’s Shhh! based on the Fantagraphics book of the most similar name.
  • For all you Baltimorians and Marylanders out there, Alliance Comics opens up their newest and latest addition to the comic shop family tomorrow.  Grand Opening is at 11 AM on 904 Light Street, in Federal Hill.
  • As seen on BoingBoing, the publisher of The Book of Genesis Illustrated by R. Crumb shows off a sneak peak video of what it will be like to thumb through your very own copy when it’s released in mid-October.
  • The nominees for Spike TV’s Scream 2009 are out and indie favorites The Walking Dead and Hack/Slash are both up for the award in the category of Best Comic Book.  Vegas has two-to-one odds on Kick-Ass.  Who wants in?
