[Above, Ward Sutton takes on Rushkoff. Below, the Dispatch takes on awesome.]

  • John Adcock takes a look at early California newspaper cartoonists like Charles H. Owens, Jules Pages, Homer Davenport and Jimmy Swinnerton.
  • Midwesterners rejoice: Cages author Dave McKean will be signing books and meeting readers at Chicago Comics (in Chicago, duh) this Saturday, July 18.
  • The cofounder of Radical Publishing, Dave Elliot, penned a profound Op-Ed for Graphic Novel Reporter on the “Act of Creation” in comics. It’s true – comics creators are but gods.
  • Cartoonist Ward Sutton reviews Doug Rushkoff’s intriguing new LIFE INC. in his series of monthly comic-style illustrated reviews for B&N. Speaking of Rushkoff, comics fans – if you haven’t read Testament yet, you might as well do yourself a favor and pick it up – it’s brill.
  • The Architects’ Journal names “Chris Ware’s Chicago” #2 on its list of “Top 10 Comic Book Cities.”
  • Musician Neko Case has found herself inextricably linked to Drawn & Quarterly for several awesome reasons, the most recent with a Julie Morstad-illustrated video.
