Big Apple is what it is... a weekend dealer show which uses lesser known celebrities for advertising. If the BAC moved upstairs, then you had a better experience than previous shows.

The strengths: lots of retailers selling a variety of merchandise, some of it discounted; notable comicbook creators somewhat accessible at tables; various aspects of the comicbook medium generally outside the normal fanboy-centric genres.

How Wizard affects BAC remains to be seen. It would be cool if a con kept attendance low by offering high ticket prices, allowing for a more enjoyable and less hectic weekend.

Oh, and is there any chance that the woman at registration actually said "ALT comics"? I personally prefer the "ALL comics" designation but the fact that Mike Diana was a guest at this show and that past Big Apples Cons have featured artists like Harvey Pekar, Spain Rodriguez and others tells me that the good folks who run the Big Apple are quite familiar with (and welcoming to) more than just mainstream, superhero material.

Hey Brian, it was nice chatting with you at Big Apple. Although I have to agree my origami-comics are more "at home" at the art/indy/mini-friendly environment of MoCCA-Fest, the Big Apple was a great venue for promoting my inclusion in Secret Identities (secretidenties.org), the Asian American Superhero Anthology, as well as the upcoming Asian American ComiCon (aacomicon.com).
I guess you can just put me down as another "all comics" fan!
