Where To Find The Cross Hatch at NYCC 2008

Do you feel that, New York? There’s something in the air. Is it springtime weather? Not quite, but it’s the next best thing. Yep, this year’s belated New York Comic Con is finally upon us, which means it’s time for another spiritual battle royal between social awkward costumed superhero fans and gleefully ironic indie kids. Naturally, we’ll be there all weekend, keeping score.

We’ll also be making a couple of appearances this week, for those of you who would like to shake our hands, drop off a mini, or vigorously debate the merits of the green versus the red Hulk—though, to be perfectly honest, I was only alerted to the existence of the latter about a month ago, as I’ve had my head in this ever enlarging pile of indie books on my living room coffee table, so I might not be able to hold up my end of the conversation. That said, you can catch us at one of the two following events:

  • CBLDF Drink & Draw – There’s nothing about that title that we don’t like—drinking, drawing, staunchly defending artists’ first amendment rights. In fact, we like it so much, we opted to get on this whole “Additional Support” thing, alongside our old pal, Jah Furry, and our friends at Act-I-vate and Smith Magazine. The event is tonight (April 15th) at the Village Pourhouse, located at 64 3rd Avenue (at 11th st.). It’s co-sponsored by Image and ComicSpace.com, and features some Cross Hatch favorites like Jeffrey Brown, Molly Crabapple, Dan Goldman, Dean Haspiel, and dozens more. Honestly, it’s not to be missed.
  • Choosing the News: The Changing Face of Online Journalism – This Friday from 2-3 PM, there will be significantly less drinking, drawing, and really, any overt defense of the first amendment rights will be purely coincidental. That said, there should be some valuable insight into the world of comics journalism. We’ll be joining The Beat’s Heidi MacDonald, Newsarama’s Matt Brady, IGN’s Richard George, and Rick Marshall from ComicMix. The panel will be held in Javits room 1E09.

If you’re in New York this week, stop by and say “hi,” and if we don’t run into you at one of the above happenings, we’ll see you on the floor!
