The Daily Cross Hatch Guy Fawkes Holiday Spectacular Winners!

Categories:  Guest Strip, News

Sarah MoreanWhen we launched our first-ever contest a few weeks back, we really had no idea what to expect. Thanks to Fantagraphics, we managed to get some pretty sweet prizes lined up, but if my experience with these sorts of endeavors has taught me anything in the past, it’s that these things tend to fall apart when you ask people to, you know, actually do stuff.

On a whole, anything beyond the standard ‘send us an e-mail,’ is generally met with weeks of silence.

However, at the insistence our mini editor, Sarah [whose own work is featured above], we pushed ahead with the initial plan, asking readers to commemorate everyone’s favorite obscure British Holiday, Guy Fawkes Day (to be totally upfront about the whole thing, by the time we had formulated our brilliant Halloween contest, we realized that we were too damn late), by creating piece in which Alan Moore’s V (the Fawkiest guy we know) was celebrating some other holiday.

Halfway into the contest, it was clear that we had one of those (to paraphrase many a Yiddish grandmother) ‘we should all be so lucky to have such problems’ scenarios, with far more displays of Fawksian wonder than we had prizes for.

In the past few days, however, we’ve managed to pair down the submissions to a top three (it helped, once we realized that awarding a prize to the terrific mini submitted by the kids at the Cartoonist Conspiracy would no doubt have been spreading the prizes far too thin—though please do yourself a favor and check out their amazing work).

Thanks again to all who participated. A lot of amazing work was submitted—you can check it all out, over at The Cross Hatch Flickr account.

But in the meantime, check out the winners, after the jump.

Worth noting that my name is spelled wrong on the heading of my piece. (Kriske, is how it’s spelled, for the record.)

Not a huge deal, but as always, I take a certain amount of pleasure in being a pedantic asshole.

Awesome submissions though. (Despite the Conspiracy being robbed! for the win.)
