Cross Hatch Dispatch 8/13/2007

These Jim Woodring Converse All Stars originals were worn by none other than the man himself at a recent lecture. (via Fantagraphics)
- Comics makers, it’s time to sit up straight. Jessica Abel and Matt Madden, the editors of the 2008 Best American Comics, are seeking submissions and the deadline is coming up fast. The comics, including those posted on the web, need to be published between Sept. 1, 2006 and August 31, 2007, and the last date for submissions is September 7, 2007. Take those precious works-in-progress out of the oven before it’s too late. Here are the rules and instructions. The rest of us can look forward to this October’s release of the 2007 edition, which is full of stuff that Chris Ware likes.
- Tom Neely, who just released The Blot, has an amazing Moby Dick piece up in a Culver City, CA gallery show called Literartistry. (via The Ephemerist)
- Don’t miss this 1999 Ivan Brunetti strip called I Almost Drew Nancy that Mike Lynch was kind enough to post up. (via Fantagraphics)
- What’s 184 pages, “perfectly bound,” and black and white on the inside? This collection of Alec Longstreth’s first four issues of Phase 7. (via Rocketship)
- Stuart Immonen, who does the Moving Pictures webcomic with wife Kathryn, has yet another great idea: a Rotten Tomatoes or Metacritic devoted to comics.
Hey guys, don’t be shy. Send me news you might have for the dispatch the e-fashioned way at dailycrosshatch@gmail.com.
