I enjoyed the article although I am not really sure how I came across it. I googled “endearing relatives” and there was a link to The Daily Cross Hatch-and a happily sinister photo of Chris.
It was sort of surprising.
I thought it very funny when the thesis topic was chosen as being the only thing Chris would understand so I was a little sorry when he corrected it to the thesis committee.
Also, I disagree with Chris about his skill with the pen. It is his non-drawing style that I like about his work. It goes really well with his sense of humor.

Wow, I almost sound sane!

As the interviewee, I want to offer the following corrections with the understanding that any mistakes made in the transcription were all my fault. I mumble, I ramble, and I was making special food for my old sick dog while we talked. Brian did a great job of wading though all my blah, blah.

1. I didn’t write a Doc Savage novel in 4th grade. I read one. To me, it was the height of sophistication. Oddly, I was thinking the other day about trying to write a story along Kenneth Robeson’s (Doc Savage writer) famous formula for telling a pulp yarn.
2. My thesis adviser thought a Batman / reader response thesis would be the only topic my thesis commitee would understand, not that I would understand. (The other comics topics I wanted to do were too geeky in comparison. I know…)
3. Oh and the thesis topic was Reader Response criticism AND Batman comics, not “in” batman comics. Yes, I’m splitting hairs.
4. An associate editor at DC has MORE responsibility than an assistant. (I think they can edit up to 2 monthly books? Assistants can edit 1.)
5. My example of fun things I got to research when an assistant at DC comic should have been not just “The Furies,” but “The Female Furies” which, you know, is a great name, so I felt obliged to correct the detail.
