Guest Strip: Kim Deitch (Pt. 2)

Kim DeitchYou think you know a lot about music. You spend decades listening and collecting, discussing and trading, read and exploring new artist and genres, exploring their stories and origins—and then you have a two-hour discussion with someone like Kim Deitch, only to release the staggering number of surfaces you’ve only just begun to scratch.

Deitch knows all of the great stories of long-forgotten artists and bizarre secret obsessions of our departed heroes, and like the artist’s books, you sometimes suspect that he’s taking you on a ride, but the journey is always well worth the price of admission.

When I asked Deitch if he planned on translating his musical obsessions into a book, he pulled out the pencils of a story that he was working on, and now we’re lucky enough to have been given the opportunity to serialize a small portion of it. Here’s part two of “The Cop on the Beat, The Man in the Moon, and Me.”

[Part one is here.]
