In which members of the rock community tearfully reveal their geeky comic obsessions, beneath their hardened irony-based exoskeleton.
Who are you? Scott, drummer of the band Shortstack.
You totally be our Myspace friend because: In these chaotic modern times, we need all the friends we can get.
What are you reading [comic-wise, naturally]? My favorite comics series of all time is Charles Burn’s Black Hole. I also
recently checked out Brian Azzarello’s Loveless, and got my dead cowboy fix. Also, on the serious side, I was recently turned on to Joe Sacco’s Safe Area Gorazde. Wow.
The comic shop that always makes us late for sound
check: There are so many comic stores in Brooklyn where I live, its hard to name just one. But Comics Plus seems to be the winner.
This time next year, I hope to be working on the soundtrack to major motion picture adaptation of which comic: Did I mention my favorite of all time is Black Hole? I would also give a limb to do Dean Motter’s Mr. X, although some new-wave band would surely be picked instead of us! But we would do a better job.
Assorted band-related comic fun facts:
-When my distant great-uncle past away, I was given a stack of his old drawings, which is strange because I never knew he made any drawings. Included was a short western comic he had drawn called Six Gun Justice. Shortstack used a part of it in our first album cover.
- I’ve eaten lunch with comic artist Stephen Destefano, and maybe even gave him a high-five.
- The other members of Shortstack like Family Circus. Especially when it doesn’t make any sense.
