The Daily Rock Hatch: Tigers and Monkeys

In which members of the rock community tearfully reveal their geeky comic obsessions, beneath their hardened irony-based exoskeleton.

Tigers and Monkeys

1. Who are you? Jason Lam, bassist, backup vocalist, Guitar Hero player.

2. What is your band called?
Tigers and Monkeys

3. You should totally become our Myspace buddy because:
You can see more pics of our Indian frontwoman, Shonali [Bhowmik].

4. What are you reading [comic-wise, naturally]?
Nothing at the moment, particularly. Too busy watching cartoons for work.

5. The comic shop that always makes us late for sound check:

Enterprise 1701 in Orlando back in the day. Is that place still
open? [Our Google research says, yes indeed, only it now goes by the way cooler moniker, Sci-Fi City-Ed.]

6. This time next year, I hope to be working on the soundtrack to
major motion picture adaptation for:
Ghost Rider 2 – Hell’s Angel. Kidding.

Assorted Tigers and Monkeys Fun Facts:

– Lam traded collection of comics for a drum set to kick-start first band at 16.
-Guitarist, Joachim Kearns, sold his Daredevil #1 to a comic book store on the upper east side for $200 so he could move to Austin at 20.
– Keyboardist, Russell Dungan, is a self-proclaimed fan of, “the Japanese cartoon porn ones.”

Tigers and Monkeys’ debut,
Loose Mouth, is out now on Little Lamb Recordings. If there’s a more appropriate soundtrack to Japanese cartoon porn comics, we have yet to hear it.
